Ukrainian Independence Day

On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Founder of Mna ag Gaire – Ennis Women’s Shed, Hilary Tonge and Ukrainian Intercultural Worker, Alina Senkova.

Today is a big day for Ukrainians living in Clare and all over the world because today is Ukraine’s Independence Day.

The Holiday is celebrated on the 24th of August, in commemoration of Ukraine’s Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Alina discussed the brief history revolving around Independence Day and highlighted what independence means to Ukrainians.

She also explained that it was not possible to celebrate for the last 2 years in their own country due to the war.

Alina announced they they will be holding an event at 3pm at O’Connell street in Ennis.

Hilary spoke about the importance of attending the event at 3pm today to show our support for Ukraine. She also outlined the number of new Ukrainian faces they have been welcoming at Mna ag Gaire.
