Ireland has lost another one of its musical greats with the death of Shane MacGowan. The Pogues’ frontman passed away in the early hours of Thursday, at the age of 65.
Born on Christmas Day in 1957, he will always be remembered for ‘Fairytale of New York’, one of the most popular Christmas songs in history.
Many from the world of music and beyond have been paying tribute to Shane MacGowan, including President Michael D. Higgins, who released a statement in which he said, “Shane will be remembered as one of music’s greatest lyricists…his words have connected Irish people all over the globe to their culture and history, encompassing so many human emotions in the most poetic of ways.”
To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Katie Theasby, a singer from Kilfenora, and drummer Ray Fean.
