On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Aidan Looney, Principal of St Josephs NS Miltown Malbay and Fr. Ignatius McCormack, Principal St Flannan’s College, Ennis.

Schools returned last week and unpredictably students are already testing positive or being identified as close contacts.

Yesterday, the HSE closed all walk-in vaccination clinics due to the high numbers presenting – with many assuming that the return to schools has led to this increased demand.

Amidst this surge, there are now calls for a dedicated helpline to be established for schools who are dealing with cases. However, The Irish Times reports health officials are considering allowing them to avoid self-isolating if they don’t have symptoms, due to increased pressure on testing.
