Primary School Staff Shortage

There are concerns some primary schools will have to send students home due to the shortage of substitute teachers.

The Irish Primary Principals Network says more teachers are absent than usual due to Covid-19. The Department of Education has directed schools not to use Special Education Teachers as subs, and to instead contact their local substitute panel.

But schools are regularly unable to get a sub as the panels are oversubscribed.
