University students who received the pandemic unemployment payment while out of work during the Covid-19 crisis may now lose out on third-level grants.
Many students have been unable to find summer work and had no choice but to accept the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
Unfortunately that payment is coming against them in relation to their SUSI grant because last year’s PUP income is being added to the family income.
This is putting many over the threshold under in order to get the SUSI grant.
On Tuesday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey spoke with Clare Fianna Fail Senator – Timmy Dooley who raised the matter in the Seanad and to John Fortune – Vice President Southern Region, Union of Students Ireland.
