A jury at the inquest into the death of Caitriona Lucas has returned a unanimous verdict of ‘misadventure’.
On Monday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Bernard Lucas, Catriona’s husband, and Ben Lucas, Catriona’s son, who discussed the inquest into Catríona’s tragic death.
Ms. Lucas, an experienced member of the Doolin Coast Guard, died after a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) capsized off the Clare coast on September 12th, 2016.
The 41-year-old mother of two and librarian from Ballyvaughan, who lived in Liscannor, was the first Irish Coast Guard volunteer to lose her life during a tasking.
She had been assisting the neighbouring Kilkee unit in a search for a missing man when the incident occurred.
The jury of four men and three women at the inquest before Limerick coroner John McNamara also issued seven recommendations for the Irish Coast Guard relating to safety, equipment, management, and training.
