Taxi fares have increased by 9%, with passengers looking at further ‘extra’ charges.
The move to increase the fare comes from the National Transport Authority, with an extra €1 on the fee for pre-booking a taxi through taxi apps, increasing it from €2 to €3, consequently bringing the increase to more than 10pc.
The move has been criticised by Uber, with the taxi app saying it believes the move will negatively affect the night-time economy in Ireland, while also failing to address the ongoing taxi shortage.
To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Clare VFI Chair and Ennis publican, Charlie O’Meara.
