Clare Motorists And Farmers Face Challenges As Freezing Temperatures Continue Clare FM

Motorists in Clare are being urged to drive with extreme care this morning, after temperatures dipped as low as minus seven degrees overnight.

It’s another bitterly cold day with an orange weather warning for low temperatures and ice remaining in place until 11 this morning for most of the country, when it will then revert to the lower yellow warning until lunchtime tomorrow.

Travelling conditions are dangerous with frost, ice, lying snow and freezing fog and road temperatures remain below freezing, with drivers being warned to prepare for black ice even on treated roads.

Clare County Council crews are continuing to treat priority routes according to the Winter Maintenance Plan.

For more on this, Alan Morrissey was joined by Cyril Feeney, Senior Engineer in Clare County Council’s Roads, Environment and Water Service Department.

To understand how the freezing temperatures are impacting Clare’s farming community, Alan Morrissey also spoke with Stephen Walsh, Clare IFA County Chair.
