Morning Focus – 17/10/18

Morning Focus commenced with a discussion about the state of regional roads in Clare from Councillors Michael Hillery and Joe Cooney. 

Nearly 80% of the regional roads in Clare have been found to have defects on their surfaces.

Paul Tully, Tully’s Bookmakers in Ennistymon and Kilrush spoke about the bookies tax increase. The Irish Bookmakers Associated has estimated that 46 jobs will be lost and eight bookies will close in Clare as a result of increasing the tax from 1% to 2%.

Conor McMahon, Deputy Editor, fora.ie discussed the TV license threat to post offices’ future.

In the second hour of the show we had our regular segment ‘Ask the GP’ with Dr Máire Finn, Ennis Family Medical Centre. This week Dr Máire discussed the subject of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

We also heard from NUI Galway Law student Simeon Burke on the Blasphemy Referendum which takes place next week. Simeon is urging people to vote no in the referendum.

In the final hour of Morning Focus Singer Brian Kennedy spoke about his new Clare FM show ‘Life, Love and Happiness.’ The Belfast-born singer will launch his show this Saturday, October 20th playing some of his favourite music and catching up with his musician friends.
