Clare Mother Fights For Communion To Go Ahead

The mother of a girl in Ballyea National School is outraged that communions in Clare have been cancelled a mere 48 hours before the ceremony was due to take place there. She says it is discriminatory towards the children of Ballyea to cancel communions while the county remains in level 2, when children in Dublin were allowed to make their communion the weekend before they moved up to level three.

Rosie Murray has contacted the Bishop of Killaloe, Fintan Monahan, and the office of the Senior Specialist in Public Health Care medicine who issued the advice that they be cancelled. She is fighting for the ceremony to take place on a midweek evening to combat fears around parties following the ceremony.

Gavin Grace spoke to Rosie on Friday’s Morning Focus.
