New Zealand are considering making it illegal for anyone born after 2004 to buy cigarettes in a bid to create a ‘smoke-free’ generation.
It would form part of plans to slowly phase out the legal sale of tobacco over a period of many years.
Ireland, like New Zealand, has a policy to be smoke-free by 2025.

However, the tobacco prevalence rate in Ireland is 17% and there are calls for more to be done here to reduce this figure.
