Frances Street Alliance Set To Stage Protest This Saturday

On Friday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Tommy Guilfoyle who is a member of Sinn Féin’s Ennis Cumman along with Dermot Hayes who is a disability activist and community campaigner. The pair are also both members of the Francis Street Alliance. Tommy discussed the details of the upcoming protest that will be taking place on Saturday 15th April. The protest is to be carried out in an attempt to get Clare County Council to overturn their decision regarding demolishing six houses in Francis Street in Ennis in order to place a temporary car park in Abbey Street. Dermot mentioned his frustration with the current decision and hopes that the protest will illustrate the feeling of the general public. Tommy and Dermot both believe that refurbishing or building new houses on the sites in question is the right way forward.
The protest will begin tomorrow at 1pm from Glór Car Park and will make it’s way throughout the town of Ennis, including Francis Street. It will conclude outside the Clare County Council offices.
