First Ever Canada Cross Commemoration Set To Take Place in Miltown Malbay

On Wednesday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined live in studio by Mary Crawford who is the Chairperson of the Mid Clare Commemoration Committee, Dr. John Treacy who is a historian and Michael Hennessy who is the grandson of Patrick Hennessey. They looked ahead to the Canada Cross Commemoration which is set to take place on Saturday April 15th. The commemoration is set to remember those who were killed by the Royal Irish Constabulary including Patrick Hennessey, John O’Loughlin and Thomas O’Leary on April 14th 1920. John described the background of the event which occurred 103 years ago. Michael discussed the death of his grandfather Patrick, who died as a result of shock and haemorrhage caused by bullet wounds on the night of 14th April 1920 inflicted by men of a patrol which included Sgt. James Hampson. Mary previewed the commemoration itself and the series of events that will take place on the day.
