Farm Focus Goes To The National Ploughing Championships

This week, Clare FM’s Farm Focus goes to the National Ploughing Championships.

Despite some disruption from Storm Ali, the ploughing this year in Screggan, Co. Offaly was a resounding success.

The weather did impact on attendance, though, with 247,000 attendees down from close to 300,000 last year.

But, as ever, there were plenty of Clare people to chat to there and James Mulhall caught up with Áine O’Connell from Killaloe, who works with the ICMSA (from 0:27).

Also there was Dr Sharon McGuinness from the Health and Safety Authority, who was on hand to tell farmers how to practice the best safety measures in their work (3:43)

Kevin Lynch of Airmid Natural Skincare in Kilmaley also spoke to James about his products, which were selling out on the first day of the exhibitions (5:52)

Day Two arrived with a bang as Storm Ali swept across the midlands, meaning the exhibitions had to be cancelled, disappointing thousands of ploughing fans.

However, the ploughing championships themselves went ahead and Suzanna Crampton brought James down to watch them take place (from 7:03)

And from 8:11, you can hear Ennis woman Olivia Charles speak about her new production which focuses on women in farming.
