Family Carers In Clare Discuss Requirement Of Additional Support Services

On Fridays Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Morning Focus listener Ursula from Ennis. Ursula is a retired public health nurse who is currently looking after both of her elderly parents. Marion Costello from Shannon, who is a full time carer for her mother with Alzheimer’s disease also joined the conversation. There has been a 53% increase in the number of people identifying as family carers according to census 2022 figures along with an additional number of hours of care provided each week. Marion and Ursula described the current demands placed on family carers and highlighted the additional support services and funding required to assist family carers.
