On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Brandon Garrihy, from Ennistymon and his mother, Geraldine Garrihy. We here at Morning Focus first became aware of Brandon’s story around two years ago, when he qualified for the Irish Junior Shooting team for a tournament in Wales. His mother spoke with us at the time about efforts to try and raise funding to enable her son to travel and compete for his country.
Since then both Brandon and the Irish Junior Team and Senior Men’s
Team have represented Ireland in the world Championships which took place in South Africa earlier this year, both teams claiming silver.
Brandon discussed how he was introduced into the sport and showcased his very impressive shooting career he has acquired so far. He highlighted that it is an expensive sport to be involved in and how the rise of costs of cartridges limits the amount of training and shooting time he gets every week. Brandon highlighted how he hopes to compete in the Olympics in the future.
