Ennistymon CBS Student Takes Top Prize At 13th National Scratch Coding Championship

On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Tom Dandoy who is a senior student at Ennistymon CBS that recently won the overall prize at the National Scratch Coding Competition with computer game ‘Spaceship Battles 3’. Mary Lyons who is the Principal of Ennistymon CBS also joined the conversation. Tom discussed his delight at winning the overall prize at the competition organized by LERO. He described his passion for coding from a young age and outlined the level of work that went into creating ‘Spaceship Battles 3’ which he designed and built using scratch. Mary highlighted the emphasis placed on teaching coding in the school and complimented teacher Mr Murphy for his efforts. She also looked ahead to upcoming events which will mark the schools closure. Events include a community celebration, a commemorative mass and a final walk through the school on June 10th to mark the end of 200 years of Ennistymon CBS.
