On Friday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Dr. Tomás MacConmara who is an oral historian and author. Tomás looked ahead to the commemorative lecture he will host in Drumcliffe Cemetery to mark the centenary of three IRA volunteers who were executed at Ennis Gaol by the Free State. He described the backgrounds of the three volunteers who were executed in 1923 called Patrick O’Mahony, Christy Quinn and William O’Shaughnessy. He mentioned their engagement with republicanism in Ennis and stated that by the time they were executed, the civil war had already ended. Tomás spoke about his desire for people to become more aware of this particular story and gain a deeper understanding of the civil war.
The commemorative event is set to take place on Tuesday 2nd of May at 7am in Drumcliffe Cemetery.
