‘It is not physically possible to construct 50k houses per year’.
That sentence comes from a recent briefing appear for Government, put together by the Water Services Operators Group and the Irish Home Builders Association.
It is not a sentence that Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael – who have each promised to build around 300,000 and 303,000 homes between now and 2030 respectively, will want to hear.
However, the briefing paper believes this to be the case, pointing to the lack of water and waste-water infrastructure to support increased housing targets beyond the next two years as the major reason why.
To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Ciarán Breen, of Ciarán Breen Construction.
