On Monday’s Morning Focus, Alan presented a piece from Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan regarding the situation. Daragh first spoke with a Killaloe shop steward, Edward Moloney. Edward spoke about the lack of firefighters around Ireland. He then outlined the little changes of the fire system since the 1940s and the poor work/life balanced that fire fighters must endure. Barry Copley, Union representative in the Kilrush Fire station also joined the conversation. He spoke about the effect that being on call 24/7 has on his family life. Majella Monaghan from Killaloe fire station and Yuri from Ennis fire brigade also spoke with Daragh and discussed the solidarity and support between firefighters.
