Clarecastle Man Opens Up About Battle With Alcoholism

There has been a surge over the last three months in alcohol-related calls to a HSE support line, with an almost 40% increase since June. Alcohol addiction has always been a problem, however, for many people, the pandemic has exacerbated the problem or led to the formation of a problem. With many out of work, it’s easy to slip into the habit of having a few drinks everyday. However, things can soon escalate.

Many of you will know Noel Considine for his prowess on the hurling pitch. However, what you may not know is that the former Clare goalkeeper, who won an All Ireland in 1997, was hospitalised nine times due to drinking before he had turned 21. Noel hit rock bottom at Christmas in 2013, before seeking help in January of 2014. He’s now encouraging others to seek help if they too are struggling.

On Friday’s Morning Focus, he told Gavin Grace about his battle with alcohol.
