On Wednesday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Seanie McMahon who is a referee administrator with the Clare GAA County Board along with Chris Maguire who is a footballing referee that is now on the national referee panel. The pair were also accompanied by Ger Hoey who is a tutor that will feature at the upcoming Clare GAA referee course. Seanie spoke about the number of referees there are in County Clare and his vision to increase that figure. He discussed the criteria there is in place to become a referee and looked ahead to the upcoming referee information night in the Temple Gate Hotel. Ger discussed the referee course in detail and the various aspects of refereeing that will be covered on the night. He also provided any potential upcoming referees with top tips to succeed in the position. Chris highlighted his enjoyment in being a referee and mentioned the various steps it took for him to join the national refereeing panel. He urged anybody who may be interested to come forward and complete the course.
The referee course will take place in the Temple Gate Hotel on Monday March 6th.
