Clare FM Catch-Up: Phase Two of Re-Opening Ireland

Monday’s edition of Morning Focus was dominated by the country’s moves into Phase Two of easing lockdown restrictions.

Confirmed on Friday, the news means shops can re-open from this morning, people can travel anywhere in their county, and groups of up to 6 people can meet indoors or outdoors with social distancing.

Pubs with restaurant licences, hotels and the wider hospitality sector will be allowed to open from June 29th.

Monday’s programme began with a discussion about this with Fine Gael TD Joe Carey and Lahinch hotellier Michael Vaughan, while later in the show Jean McCabe of Willow boutique in Ennis joined us.

We also asked if the decision made on Friday was the correct one from a medical point of view – Gavin spoke with Professor Samuel McConkey, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
