On Friday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Mary Crawford, Chairperson of the Mid Clare Commemoration Committee and Pat Kirby, member of the Mid Clare Commemoration.
One of the most memorable encounters of the War of Independence took place on the 22nd of September, 1920 at Dromin Hill, Rineen.
The Rineen Ambush saw a British Army convoy ambushed by the Mid Clare Brigade of the IRA.
The delayed Centenary Commemoration of the Rineen Ambush will take place next month, on the 24th of September.
Mary discussed how the ambush was carried out and highlighted that the area was strategically located.
Pat explained that the commemoration event was delayed due to the coronavirus and showcased a historic rifle that belonged to Ignatius O’Neil who was involved in the ambush.
