Celebrating Kilnamona’s Light Heavyweight Champion Of The World

On Monday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by
Nicholas Rynne and Michael McTigue , Nicholas is a grand nephew and Michael is a distant relative of legendary Kilnamona boxer Mike McTigue.

On Novemeber 23rd 1923, Mike McTigue became the Light Heavyweight Champion of the world defeating Senegalese fighter Battling Siki in Dublin in the last ever 20 round fight. Mike held the World Championship belt until 1925.

Today Michael and Nicholas are now hoping to raise adequate funds to erect a fitting memorial to Mike McTigue in time for the Centenary Anniversary of his World Title feat next year.
