Calls for Restrictions at Maternity Hospitals to be Reviewed

In the last week, in light of the “wet” pubs opening date confirmation, the issue of the restrictions on maternity services has begun to be questioned nationally. Are these restrictions still necessary or fit for purpose?

Ciara McGuane is from Kilnamona and has written to every TD and Senator in Clare asking for them to address the ongoing restrictions in maternity hospitals six months into the pandemic. Ciara’s partner had a cough in March leading to her having to give birth alone and her son not meeting his father for three days. Although she knows it was the right thing to do in her situation, she feels it’s no longer fair for women to be forced to accept such stringent restrictions.

She spoke with Morning Focus’ Gavin Grace on Friday.
