On Friday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Ennis native, Bernárd Lynch. Later today, Bernárd will receive a civic reception from Clare County Council and discussed his feelings and thoughts before the upcoming civic reception.
Bernárd joined the SMA order in the 1970s which led him to New York City. During the 1970s and 1980s he focused his attention to help mainly sick men that were dying from AIDS and campaigned for LGBT rights for decades. During the late 1980s he faced a grueling court case for the alleged sexual abuse of a teenage boy, for which he won total exoneration. Bernárd rebuilt his life and has received many accolades and awards for his activism and advocacy role in New York. His story was relayed in Clare FM’s documentary on Bernárd’s life story ‘Falsely Accused’ which won Gold at the New York Radio Awards.
