Adaptation Of International Guidelines On Air Pollution Crucial To Save Lives In Clare

On Wednesday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Brian Meaney who is a former Green Party Councillor for Ennis along with Alan Bell who is the creator of the Air Quality Alerts Twitter page. The pair discussed a recent report called ‘Air Pollution and Mortality on the Island of Ireland’ which revealed that thirteen lives could be saved yearly in County Clare if international guidelines on air pollution are adopted. Brian discussed the alarming air quality levels in County Clare and mentioned the type of air pollutants that we are exposed to. He urged people to stop burning wood, coal and turf and to take a balanced approach towards achieving a healthy air quality. Alan described various measures that could be put in place in order to improve our air quality. He also mentioned that from now until October, County Clare’s air will be one of the cleanest in Europe.
