Ours To Protect [Weekly Episode 28]

Two of the early adapters of the practice were Ellen Quinn and Joe Deasy.

Ellen Quin established Hurst Botanicals along with her partner Alex last year.

First though, Pat Flynn spoke with Joe Deasy who operates a retail business in the village.

Tips:

* If you run a retail business, like Joe Deasy, installing doors on fridges can make a significant difference to your running costs. Doors on refrigerators mean the space is not as cold and there is less of a requirement to heat the shop thus making further savings.

* Joe says it wasn’t difficult to begin to implement the measures and that as once he started, it ‘snowballed’ and he introduced other practices which have seen significant cost savings.

* Ellen Quinn believes it’s too easy to think of the climate change crisis as this huge problem whereas, by taking small measures and doing them to the best of your ability, you do make a difference.

* While a lot of effort goes into sourcing sustainable raw materials for the business, it’s worth doing so.
