An Ennis bridge has been named after a legendary Clare world champion boxer.

Mike McTigue, who hailed from Kilnamona, became the Light Heavyweight Champion of the World in 1923, beating the Senegalese fighter Battling Siki in Dublin.

A century on from the famous victory, the bridge formerly known as Victoria Bridge, was officially renamed.

Local sculptor and relative of Mike, Michael McTigue, is honoured to have the legendary boxer remembered.
