The Minister in charge of the OPW has indicated that works on the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme could begin in the coming months.
The project is now running two years behind schedule.
It's been over two years since Clare County Council was first given the green light for the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme.
The project will see works carried out in Clonroadmore, Ballybeg and Clareabbey, in order to establish long term defences to flooding in the area.
In a written answer to the Dáil, Minister Seán Canney has acknowledged that project has been delayed by what he has called "necessary" technical discussions.
But, he says that he expects the OPW to write to the Council by the end of the month in relation to the approval of funding for the scheme.
It's one of 20 projects across the country which have been subject to lengthy delays over the past number of years.
