Works At Ennis Railway Station Ruled Out

Irish Rail says money isn't there for works at Ennis Railway Station which would improve accessability for people with disabilities, despite agreeing that it should be prioritised.

Transport Minister Paschal Donohue has been pressed on the matter in the Dáil, but gave no indication that a lift or ramp would be installed in the near future.

In response, Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara has branded the situation as "unacceptable", and says it's a form of discrimination that people in wheelchairs are asked to provide advance notice of their journeys so they can be assisted by a member of staff.

Irish Rail spokesman Barry Kenny says they don't have the money for the works because of "dramatic funding" reductions in recent years.
