There has already been more cases of covid-19 confirmed in January than in all of 2020, but despite this, Clare’s daily figures have begun to level out.

The county recorded it’s lowest number of daily cases since December 28th on Tuesday this week, while last night 24 new cases were confirmed.

Nonetheless Clare County Council and An Garda Síochána have joined with local health authoritiies in appealing to people in Clare to hold firm and continue to follow public health advice.

CEO of the local authority, Pat Dowling says everyone must excercice personal responsibility and common sense to get through this pandemic.

Public Health officials have been dealing with over 40 outbreaks of CVOID-19 in workplaces across the Midwest this month, and say this remains one of the most significant areas of concern.

They say that while many workplaces have strict guildines in place when dealing with the public, many people are dropping their guard in the break room, or are contracting the virus while car sharing when commuting to work.

Specialist in Public Health Medicine, Dr Marie Casey says the outbreaks are across a number of industries, including office workers.

She’s commending the people of Clare for their efforts to drive down the numbers of those contracting the virus, but she’s warning that it’s crucial everyone stays the course to ease pressure on the hospital system.

The number of patients being treated for Covid-19 at University Hospital Limerick has fallen by 7 over the past 24 hours to 108, while the numbers in intensive care are also down from 19 to 15.

Dr Casey says there are still cases where people who are symptomatic have been going to work.
