Clare County Council says its work on a new Planning Strategy for the Ennis area won't be wasted, even though the plan can't go ahead.
The local authority has stopped working on the Ennis and Environs Local Area Plan as its development is not permitted by the Department of the Environment under local government reforms which centralised planning services in the county.
Their work to date included over 230 submissions from the public, and the Council blamed their interpretation of changed laws.
However, a number of Councillors are concerned that public money and resources may have been wasted, including Barefield Independent Councillor Ann Norton.
