A 74 year old woman has been killed after being hit by her own car in Co Clare.
The incident happened in Ennis at around twenty to two this afternoon.
It's understood the 74 year old lady had been putting her shopping into the back of her car at Francis Street in Ennis when the car unexpectedly reversed, knocking her to the ground.
The woman's 6 year old grandson was inside the vehicle at the time while a second grandchild – a 10 year old girl was standing close to the car.
Both children escaped injury but are being treated in hospital for shock.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem examination.
Gardai in Ennis are treating the incident as a tragic accident, but have appealed for any witnesses who were in the area of Aldi and Tesco at the time to contact them.
Francis Street has now reopened following a forensic examination.
