Lonely Planet has described the 2,500km driving route as the best place in the world to "lose yourself in spectacular scenery, glowing sunsets and glistening surf".
It the best of five spectacular roads less travelled, beating off the Gaspesie (Gas-pay) Tour in Canada, Norway’s fjords and islands, the Pan-American Highway in southern Peru and Croatia’s Adriatic coast.
The "unique karst scenery" of The Burren was also highlighted along with the Aileen’s waves, which swell off the Cliffs of Moher.
