The gap between male and female unemployment in Clare is widening.
The Live Register for November 2024 published by the Central Statistics Office shows that of the 3,732 people seeking unemployment benefit in Clare last month, just shy of 53% were male while over 47% were female.
While the level of unemployment in the county is down 20% in the last twelve months, the gap is widening between men and women, with female employment here dropping by 24% in the last year compared to just 16% for men.
Ennis had the longest doll queues in the county last month, with 1,910 collecting unemployment benefit there, followed by 687 in Ennistymon, 674 in Kilrush and 470 in Tulla.
In total, there were 162,900 people on the Live Register across the country in November which was down 3.7% from the previous month.
