West Clare Woman Preparing For Life On The Streets

A Clare woman on the brink of eviction expects to be sleeping in a tent by the end of the week.

After eight years living in Kilrush, Michelle Coughlan has been served with a notice to quit by her current landlord having fallen €2,500 into rental arrears.

She claims she stopped paying rent in the last year due to her apartment’s persistent damp conditions.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Killaloe-based Inis Housing Association, which she contacted for support, says it can’t comment on the situation as the “case has already been litigated in full, with both the Residential Tenancies Board, and then the higher, civil courts”.

Michelle says she has no other option but to sleep on the streets once her tenancy comes to an end on Thursday.
