West Clare Student Raising Funds To Cure Childhood Blindness In Calcutta

A West Clare student is raising funds to help eradicate blindness for children living in the streets and slums of Calcutta.

Jamie Mulqueen who has been working in Wild Atlantic opticians in Kilrush for the last six years will be adding his skills to the Hope Foundation’s Blindness Eradication programme when he travels to Caluctta for two months this summer.

India currently has the highest rate of childhood blindness in the world, with an estimated 2.75 million children suffering from visual impairments.

 

Kilmurry McMahon native Jamie says it is important to help children marginalised by abject poverty.
