West Clare Councillor Says Withdrawal Of Funding To Blame For State Of Rural Roads

A West Clare County Councillor says the withdrawal of key Government funding is to blame for the state of disrepair on rural roads in the county.

It follows a new report which found that nearly a quarter of the county's tertiary roads have "severe" structural defects, while a further 15 per cent have other defects.

The figures contained in the report by the National Oversight and Audit Commission, which reviewed local authorities in 2014, mark the highest percentage of any county in Ireland.

Miltown Malbay Councillor Christy Curtin says lack of funding at national level is the problem.
