West Clare Councillor Fearful Housing Delivery Will Be Hamstrung By Limiting Population Growth

It’s feared the county’s delivery of housing will be hamstrung by limits placed on Clare’s population growth.

Councillors are currently in the midst of putting together a County Development Plan for Clare for the next six years, however, the delivery of housing and services will be dictated by population.

The current government strategy means plans for Clare can only be formed based on a projected growth of nearly 10% above the 2016 figures up to 2029, however, preliminary census figures show Clare has already seen a population growth of 7.2%.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy is concerned that unless this is reviewed, Clare will only be allowed to expand by 3,000 people over the course of six years.
