West Clare Councillor Calls For Kilrush To Be Considered As Possible Host For National Famine Commemoration

A West Clare Councillor is calling for Kilrush to be considered as the host of the next National Famine Commemoration.

The town previously hosted the ten-day-long event in 2013, led by President Michael D. Higgins.

Kilrush was one of the worst affected areas during the Famine between 1845 and 1852. with evictions, fever and cholera significantly reducing the population.
