A West Clare councillor is calling for the criteria around the affordable housing scheme to be changed so that rural areas could also apply for funding.
Currently the scheme is limited to urban areas with a population of more than 10,000 people – meaning that only Ennis and Shannon would qualify in Clare.

Additionally, no area in Clare is included in the Government’s Housing for All plan, whereby 18 councils will build 7,550 affordable purchase homes using state-owned land by 2026.
Lahinch Green Party Councillor Liam Grant is appealing for changes to be made in order to meet the housing demand in rural areas.
