Work is underway to restore a ferry that once ruled the waves of the Shannon Estuary back to its former glory.
Built in 1988, the 11-metre long St Senan was purchased by Gerald Griffin of Scattery Island Ferries in 1996 and brought countless visitors from Kilrush Marina to the monastic settlement when in operation.
Having been lying idle for a number of years, the ferry tour company is now in the process of renovating the vessel and makes it Ireland’s first fully-electric ferry.
Gerald’s niece Irene Griffin says the St Senan could be on the water as soon as this summer.
