Despite a drop in water levels across the region in recent days, part of the road between Coole and Kiltarten remains underwater.

Paul Johnston, Professor of Environmental Engineering at Trinity College says flooding concerns were raised during the planning of the 550 million euro project, however planners were more concerned with ground conditions in the area.

Galway County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland say the review of the project will be carried out shortly.

Professor Johnston says it's too late now to re-route the road, but changes will have to be made.
