It appears that only parts of West Clare will escape the scorching temperatures in this county today, as a status yellow high temperature alert remains in place for the country.

Temperatures have climbed to 20 degrees in Kilkee this lunchtime, and Met Éireann says it’s unlikely to get any hotter there today.

Elsewhere in the county, things are only beginning to heat up though.

At 3 o’clock the mercury is expected to rise to 28 degrees in Crusheen, while at 4 o’clock Mountshannon will be basking in 30 degree heat.

By 5 o’clock this evening Ennis and Shannon should hit 30 degrees, with Ballyvaughan slightly lower at 29 degrees.

These people in Lahinch say they’re enjoying the hot weather.

Met Éireann is warning we’re in for a “tropical” night tonight.

Head of Forecasting Evelyn Cusack has told Clare FM that temperatures aren’t likely to dip below 20 degrees, and by tomorrow, we’ll be back to more normal temperatures.

The head of the Clare County Fire Service, meanwhile, is reminding people that anyone caught intentionally setting a gorse fire will be prosecuted.

An orange forest fire warning has been issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and will remain in place until Wednesday.

Visitors to forests are being warned not to use barbeques or open fires at any stage or park vehicles at site entrances, as it could block emergency service access to forest roads.

Clare’s Chief Fire Officer Adrian Kelly is also reminding people that deliberately setting a fire will draw emergency services away from other potential dangers.
