Health Warnings As Temperatures Soar In Clare

Clare is bracing itself for temperatures as high as 28 degrees in parts today.

Met Éireann has issued a yellow high temperature alert for the county, as well as several others, from now until later this evening.

But as people flock to the great outdoors to make the most of the weather, we’re being reminded that it’s vital to protect our skin and bear water safety advice in mind.

t’s been a rather wet June so far but from now, a high temperature warning is in place for the Banner County until 7pm.

The latest reading from the Shannon Airport Weather Station shows it’s already reached a peak of 23 degrees, with Met Éireann predicting highs of up to 28 in parts of Clare today.

Coastal areas will be a little cooler, thanks to the sea breeze, and as can be expected, people will be flocking to beaches in the likes of Kilkee, Lahinch and Lough Derg this afternoon.

While we’re being encouraged to enjoy the day that’s in it, Clare’s Water Safety Officer Clare McGrath says we still need to be wary of cold water temperatures.
Met Éireann is also warning people that the solar UV is very high today.

Ennis pharmacist Mary Jo Duffy says it’s vital to cover up with factor 50 sun cream, regardless of your skin type.

People who suffer from hayfever are being advised to take an antihistamine before heading outside, if possible, and to stock up for the coming days, with the pollen count expected to remain high.

Separately, Clare’s County Dog Warden is urging people not to leave dogs in their car during the high temperatures, as it can be detrimental to their health and to ensure they have access to shade and plenty of water at home.

Temperatures will drop again tomorrow, though we’re in for another hot night, with Met Éireann forecasting overnight temperatures of around 20 degrees in Clare.
