Council Salt Stocks In Place As Cold Snap Descends On Clare

Clare County Council says it has more than six weeks’ worth of salt stocks on hand if a long cold snap is in store this winter.

This week marks the first time this winter that the local authority is gritting a number of the county’s national roads with temperatures dropping below freezing.

Motorists in Clare are also being warned about dense fog in places until 10am this morning amid a yellow warning from Met Eireann for all of Munster.

2,500 tonnes of salt are in reserve in this county, with seven routes being prioritised by the Council, though there are warning some local roads will remain untreated this morning.
