Clare Motorists Urged To Drive With Care In Wake Of Storm Franklin

Gardaí are advising motorists to drive with extreme care on Clare roads this morning as strong winds associated with Storm Franklin begin to ease.

A status orange wind alert was in place for the county up until midnight last night, with gusts of up to 117 kilometres per hour recorded in Shannon.

There are currently just over 200 homes and businesses in the Ennis, Ennistymon, Drumquin and Miltown areas without power and ESB crews are working to restore supply by this afternoon.

Emergency services have reported a busy night, with a number of trees down in parts of the county, particularly in West Clare, and Gardaí are warning people to be on the lookout for debris on the roads and downed wires.
