Around 4,000 Clare homes have been without power overnight following on from Storm Hannah.

Areas affected include Ennistymon, Lahinch, Clarecastle, Kilmaley, Lissycasey, Tulla and the Tubber/Gort area. In some cases, the ESB estimates it will be lunchtime before power is restored. Full details can be found in www.powercheck.ie

The forecast category red conditions were at their peak here between 8:00 and 1:00 a.m. last night, with the strongest gust of 122 km/h being recorded at Shannon Airport after midnight.

An unofficial reading of 153 km/h was recorded by a weather station at Moneypoint.

Fire units from throughout the county dealt with fallen trees in several areas, but had to wait for a time before responding to some callouts to allow conditions abate, for safety reasons.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution this morning, as it is likely that there will be significant amounts of debris on many routes.
